Polly – We are very excited…Tell us a little about Sweet Owl Hampers?
PINA Ok, so the Sweet Owl Hampers we started from scratch. In July this year will be 1 year officially. We sell over 100 hampers online, free delivery Australia wide. Using a lot of local, gourmet Australian foods, items and alcohol. We will be bringing the hampers into this store which is fabulous.
HEATH Local pick ups available too!
PINA Yes, and $1 from every hamper gets donated back to the Ballarat Soup Bus.
HEATH The other thing that we wanted to make sure for the Sweet Owl Hampers is that its locally driven. 98% of all the products actually come from Ballarat, Geelong, Melbourne so they’re all in this space which is an important thing. We are trying to push local not just online but also instore.
Polly – Heath & Pina are planning to open…
tell us some of the exciting things happening
HEATH It is really exciting; it is a brand-new store. Ian & Jill have had the business for 23 years I think it is, so from their point of view they are retiring and we’re taking it on in a whole new leaf. Having desserts, hampers obviously with Sweet Owl Hampers, gelato, mega desserts. So, it’s going to be exciting for all ages. The big kids, little kids and everyone in between.
PINA That includes monster shakes, giant sundaes, gelato spiders, fondue, cakes, coffee and kids parties too, from ages 8-12.
HEATH Some of the other things we’ve got in here is, Pick n Mix, so you can come in choose your cup size and go to your hearts extent. There’s about 30 different flavours to choose from which again is quite unique and from our point of view we’re excited to be here in the Mall.
Polly – There is an exciting feature…tell us about the inspired selfie wall.
PINA This is called the Darrell Lea Ballarat Chocolate Experience Store so it had to be all about experiences. Coming in and the smell of all the products. I suppose to put us on the map for visitors who come into Ballarat as a bit of a destination so we thought well we have to make something a bit different so let’s make it into that sort of illusion Instagram wall. People can come and take their photos like they’re surfing the giant wall of chocolate
HEATH It’s going to be the newest attraction to Ballarat, it will be classed as an attraction. We want everyone to come into Ballarat from a tourism point of view, obviously they do their normal routines of Sovereign Hill, Lake Wendouree, Kryal Castle the Wildlife Park and everyone and then we want them to come down to the Mall and check us out, check out all the other shops we’ve got out here. It will be exciting.
PINA It brings a bit of happiness and joy and that’s one thing Ian & Jill said that it’s a good fun place to work. It’s happy and if you can’t come into a chocolate store and feel happy, somethings wrong isn’t it!
Polly – What is your signature sweet/drink?
PINA We will have our signature hot chocolates so that will be Milk, Dark or White chocolate. And that is the pure liquid chocolate that you get your cup of hot milk and just pour that baby in. Or, if you prefer, just skip the milk and pour the chocolate straight down!
Polly – Tell us a little about the products that you’re going to sell…
HEATH It is catering for everyone so if you’re not an absolute sweet tooth, that’s ok! We’ll have your traditional cakes, coffee, tea. From a product point of view, we’re going to have chocolates and lollies from all around the world and locally made. We will pretty well have the whole Darrell Lea range here. We’re the only Darrell Lea store in Victoria from point of view its just exciting to have the range of products that we have here for not just Darrell Lea but other products. We’ll be a one stop shop for everything in chocolate and sweets.
